• Gov 2.0 University – I'm very proud to announce the launch of this new joint venture with Hinchcliffe & Company and LMI. I was at EPA for the beginning of "Web 1.0" and helped launch one of the very first government Web sites. Ever since then, I continue to believe there is a fantastic opportunity for government agencies to use the Web to better serve their constituencies and revolutionize our democracy. The term "Gov 2.0" may smack of hyperbole, but that does not change the fact that there are great opportunities afoot for us to improve our great republic!
• The Dirty Little Secret About the "Wisdom of the Crowds" – There is No Crowd – Interesting article about Vassilis Kostakos research that shows that small, vocal groups can control the voice of the "crowd" and what some sites are doing to address it.

• Report: Social Networks Growing while Other Social Media Sites Stagnate and Decline – RWW's sumamry of the interesting report from Universal McCann showing that the holistic social networking sites (Facebook, Orkut) are starting to absorb activity from the niche social media sites (Blogger, Flickr).
• In the Future, the Cost of Education will be Zero – Josh Catone pulls together a number of great references to argue that: "The marginal cost of education is being driven toward zero due to social media and innovative approaches to online learning like OpenCourseWare, Flat World Knowledge, and the University of the People. That’s because the nature of information is such that it can be created once at cost and distributed and consumed over and over again for free."

• Six ways to make Web 2.0 work – The McKinsey Quarterly – More about Enterprise 2.0 than Web 2.0, McKinsey provides a great business primer on how business leaders can leverage social tools to improve company performance. It is telling that of the six ways, 3 address organization culture, 2 address processes, and one addressed technology. Supporting again my assertion that culture is the biggest challenge of the E2.0 3-legged stool.

• Internet Interrupted: Why Architectural Limitations Will Fracture the ‘Net – Nemertes Research updates their important study that has great impact on the growth of SaaS and cloud computing.
• Don’t Buy Into These 10 Social Media Myths | SocialComputingMagazine.com – Eric Brantner lists 10 myths often associated with social media. Important food for thought for anyone planning their social marketing or community strategies.

• Web 2.0: The Future of Collaborative Government | Federal Government | State Government – Deloitte LLP – The high-level summary is still to come, but this page includes a 10 minute video and links to information about the speakers when "On June 3, 2008, Deloitte and the National Academy of Public Administration convened a group of government leaders, subject matter experts and forward thinkers to develop a road map to help the next administration navigate the work force and organization changes that need to occur to move to a more collaborative model of government."
• Gartner sees Hype Cycle for Social Software « Shepherd’s Pi – Nice summary post from Lewis Shepherd on Gartner's 2008 Hype Curve that shows )amongst many other things) that “Web 2.0 software” is falling from its “Peak of Inflated Expectations” and is on its way to a “Trough of Disillusionment.”

• The Amorality of Web 2.0 – Rough Type: Nicholas Carr’s Blog: – Nicholas Carr's 2005 post that postulates Web 2.0 social knowledge capture (Wikipedia fo instance) may have a net negative effect on society by displacing more expensive professional alternatives. (And boy is he right about blogosphere echolalia).
• Groundswell – Winning ia a World Transformed by Social Technologies – A great page supporting their Groundswell book, includes two ten-minute clips of Charlene Li and Josh Bernoff talking about how companies can use Web 2.0 technologies to empower people in their organizations (Enterprise 2.0).

• Five Ways to Mark Up the Web – Nick Gonzalez from a while back reviews five website annotations tools. These (and others) can be very valuable for new social research approaches to learning. Students can mark up articles "together" as they read them.
• Modeling The Real Market Value Of Social Networks – Michael Arrington does some very interesting number crunching to try to assess the real business (dollar) value of the major social networks.
• Multi-tasking, task-switching, and humans — or why I didn’t finish writing this post three hours ago – Dave Munger ponders a bit of research regarding the human tendency to task switch. As the millenials enter the workforce this behavior will greatly impact productivity and work behaviors. (personal note: multi-tasking kills! ;o)

• What is eLearning 2.0? : eLearning Technology – An older post from Tony Karrer where he provides his very e-learning focused view of what Learning 2.0 is. He touches on very good points. What's missing may be how learning behavior will change based on the new paradigm.
• Corporate Learning Long Tail and Attention Crisis : eLearning Technology – Another great thought provoker from Tony Karrer. He posits The Long Tail" with attention as the X-axis instead of sales. Then he discusses the challenge that corporate learning has in continuing to be relevant in this new attention economy.

Great opener: "If someone asks me what’s the best learning management system, my initial response is – Google."
• Evolution and Scientific Literature: Towards a Decentralized Adaptive Web – "As our systems grow more sophisticated, we will see applications that support not just links between authors and papers but relationships between users and information repositories, and users and communities."
• Learning from E-Databases in an E-Data World (EDUCAUSE Review) | EDUCAUSE CONNECT – A broad article that reviews the poor state of data gathering and discoverability on the Web. It frames a core concern with using the Web as a learning platform: that the data available is often uncaptured or not easily discoverable.
