Web 2.0: Show Us The Money!
by Jeff KellyI wanted to post this video for two reasons: 1) They used the nearly the same headline as I did (and who knows how many others have ;o); and 2) while my post is a dry review of the ways to generate revenue on the Web, Charlene Li and Sarah Lacy have a brief but interesting discussion about why monetizing social networks is different from search and other general Web advertising (the favored monetization model on the Web). I especially liked Charlene’s comment that Twitter may be amassing a more valuable data set than Facebook because they capture what “people are paying attention to” right now. - The Partnership for 21st Century Skills – Home – For the K-12 set: A wonderful site advocating the improvement of our education system to include 21st-century skills. From the site: "The Partnership for 21st Century Skills has developed a unified, collective vision for 21st century learning that can be used to strengthen American education." They hit the nail on the head by stressing Creativity and Innovation Skills; Critical Thinking and Problem Solving Skills, and Communication and Collaboration Skills.
- Moving towards the 2.0 “movie-going” experience – Ian Da Silva poses a thoughtful question about the future of movie distribution. This parallels many of the "converged" purchase models that I have discussed with my media clients. It will be interesting to see how long it is before you purchase your ticket at a theater and are given the option to pay an extra fee to download the video when it is released online…

- The Semantic Web in Education (EDUCAUSE Quarterly) | EDUCAUSE CONNECT – Jason Ohler provides a nice summary of semantic Web and its implications for education. Though he dances adroitly around the technical (standards) problem that will make the semantic Web a challenge, he does nicely scratch the surface of the implications for learning if it does come to pass.
- The Three-E Strategy for Overcoming Resistance to Technological Change (EDUCAUSE Quarterly) | EDUCAUSE CONNECT – A good summary of introducing technology that will improve performance. From the article: "First, a technology must be evident to the user as potentially useful in making his or her life easier (or more enjoyable). Second, a technology must be easy to use to avoid rousing feelings of inadequacy. Third, the technology must become essential to the user in going about his or her business."

- The Enterprise 2.0 Recovery Plan – Andrew McAfee posts a thoughtful (and log) review of the tenets and principles behind Enterprise 2.0 from the perspective of being "put in charge of IT as part of the turnaround effort at a big US automaker". A great review of E2.0 ideals
- Biggest Battle Yet For Social Networks: You, Your Identity And Your Data On The Open Web – The identity convergence begins. And we all thought it would be OpenID…
